After winning his first title as an amateur at aged just 15, Toxteth fighter Meshech Speare found out he was having his first child.

Growing up in Toxteth, an area which Speare describes as a ‘rough environment’, was not easy for him.

Speare admits he became a product of the rough environment, as he battled between hanging around on the streets and boxing.

On one hand Speare was winning titles, on the other, he was involved in gang problems.

However, it wasn’t until the birth of Speare’s first child that he decided to fully commit to boxing.

It was quite a daunting moment for the young teenager, however, two years later after the birth of his child, he returned to doing what he does best, boxing.

When 22 year old Meshech Speare turned professional in the summer of 2017, he only had one goal in mind, which was becoming World Champion.

Since his points victory in his debut fight against Luke Fash, Speare has had four consecutive knockout victories.

A bright prospect, many local fans are eager to see where Meshech’s career will end up.

Boxing has not been alien to Speare’s family. His grandfather Carl Speare won a Bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in 1974.

“I originally started boxing because I was a bit of a rogue as a kid, always fighting and bouncing off the walls.’’

It was then Speare’s mother who got him into boxing to keep him busy.

Since then, he has won titles as an amateur and beat some great fighters all around the country.

“My daughters are my biggest motivation, they’ve just added more fuel to the fire. One day they will understand how much motivation they’ve given me throughout the years when I win us a world title.”

Speare admits his focus has shifted ever since becoming a father.

“The only aspiration now is to become a world champion as well as provide the best life I possibly can for my family.”

“My daughters are my biggest motivation, they’ve just added more fuel to the fire. One day they will understand how much motivation they’ve given me throughout the years when I win us a world title.”

Speare concluded by stating what he is looking to achieve once he has retired from boxing.

“When it’s all said and done, I want to be remembered for being that kid who came from nothing, did everything asked of him and overcame every obstacle and became a sporting great.”
