Liverpool’s Neal Skupski and fellow Brit Dan Evans have suffered defeat to Mate Pavic and Nikola Meketic for the second consecutive final.
Having already lost in the Miami Open earlier in the month, Skupski and Evans endured another loss to the same opponents, loosing on Championship point, 6-3 4-6 10-7.
The match was equal throughout, with the Croatians taking the first set following a brilliant reply from the Brits in the second. The game was filled with important breaks of serves and a deciding tie-break at 7-7.
Nevertheless, the tournament was still a successful one despite the defeat in the final. The duo showed a lot of confidence on the court throughout the tournament, defeating the number one seeds in the semi-finals.
Skupski and Evans have showed true grit throughout the course of the tournament. The pair managed to escape three match tie-breaks in three of their matches earlier in the week, as well as saving three match points in the second round against Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah.
Considering Skupski and Evans were not one of the favorites, a lot can be taken away from Monte Carlo Masters.
