Lancashire’s Jos Buttler has been hailed as “best in the world” after his sublime 101 not out against Sri Lanka.
It helped England to a fourth straight win in the 2021 T20 World Cup, putting on the brink of the semi-finals.
Buttler battered the Sri Lanka bowling attack to all parts of the ground.
He became the first ever English player to score a 100 in all three formats of the game, test, ODI and T20.
Having only been dismissed once, Buttler is the top run scorer in the tournament so far, amassing 214 runs.
England are the best T20 team in the world and have quickly shown they are the dominant force in this tournament.
They have tougher tests ahead – New Zealand and Pakistan are likely to be semi-final opponents.
But the 50-over World champions have gone into the tournament having only lost one series from their last 11 in T20 format.
After this tournament, the wait for the next chapter is just 12 months as Australia host it in October 2022.
And many are predicting England to win back to back T20 World Cups.
“England are to be feared in any conditions,” said Mike Atherton, former England captain.
Typically, England have struggled in Australia, especially in test cricket.
And they are rank outsiders in the upcoming Ashes series down under.
However ,T20 is a different ball game.
England have delivered so far with wins against West Indies, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
And the manner of the victory over old enemy Australia, chasing down the required runs in just 11.4 overs, raised many eyebrows around the cricketing world.
Buttler again led the charge – his mouth-watering 71 not out from just 32 balls setting up the victory.
They face South Africa on Saturday in their final group game, with semi-finals scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday November 10-11.
