Widnes Wild will face the Dundee Comets across two legs in the Moralee Cup final this weekend.
It is Widnes Wild’s first appearance in the Moralee Cup final in their history and they will be hoping to mark it with a win.
League Form
The Wild faced Solihull Barons most recently, coming out 6-4 winners in that league game.
They currently sit in fourth in the NIHL Division One and just a point off the third placed Barons.
Dundee are sat fourth as well but they have only played three games in the SNL.
In these three they are completely unbeaten coming off the back of a 10-0 win against the North Ayrshire Wild.
There’s no doubt they are a very strong opponent for the Wild to face and will pose a serious threat.
Cup Form
The Wild finished joint top with the Barons with both teams finishing on eight points in their Midlands Cup group.
From there, they managed a draw and a win against the Solway Sharks in their semi-final tie to progress to the final.
The Comets had a similar run finishing second to the Solway Sharks in the North Cup.
From here they faced the Solihull Barons and won over two legs to reach the final.
Odds on Favourites?
It would look like it’s advantage Dundee going into the first leg with their big win over Ayr.
However, Widnes Wild will be boosted by two back to back wins in tough NIHL matchups.
It could go either way as Widnes proved too good for Solway who Dundee struggled to beat.
This leaves this contest wide open for either team to snatch the trophy in a hotly contested final.
Club Feeling
Widnes Wild’s Head Coach Richard Haggar is positive about the upcoming final.
He said: “This weekend is one of the biggest weekends in Widnes’ short history.
“It is exciting times in Widnes with what we are building and this is another step in the right direction for us.
“We will be going out there this weekend to leave everything on the ice and to bring the silverware home for all our fans.”
