Liverpool captain Niamh Fahey revealed that we could witness a very familiar celebration when she lifts the FA Women’s Championship trophy on Sunday.
“[Missy] Bo Kearns wants me to do the ‘Hendo shuffle’, we haven’t nailed it down 100% yet, but there are talks,” she told Merseysportlive.
“Potentially, that is going to come out, yeah,” the Irish international added.
Fahey is a Liverpool supporter so getting her hands on the trophy and leading the club back into the Women’s Super League will be even sweeter.
“Wearing that armband, you know it is extra special, it is an honour to wear the armband and be able to lift the trophy,” she said.
The skipper is excited to be back in the WSL but recognises the challenge that faces the Reds.
“It is a completely different ball-game. Being water-tight but also being able to score is going to be important.”
However, Fahey is confident that manager Matt Beard will have a plan.
Beard was responsible for guiding the Reds to their maiden WSL in 2013 and retaining their crown in 2014. He also has experience at Chelsea and West Ham.
Top scorer predicts trophies
Liverpool’s top goal scorer this season Leanne Kiernan played under him at West Ham, and she was full of praise for the 44-year-old.
“He was a big reason why I came to the club.
“It is quite nice that he had the belief in me to give me the number 9 shirt and lead the line,” she said.
The 25-cap Ireland international is confident that the club can thrive in the WSL and challenge the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City.
“I can’t wait to play against the top teams, the Chelsea’s, the City’s, the Arsenal’s,” she said.
“I think we have got great backing and I think we can go a long way, it is a great club and a big name, so hopefully we can provide trophies in the next few years.”
Liverpool lass
Missy Bo Kearns explained exactly what promotion means to her as a local girl.
“It is a proud moment, I am delighted to get back there because we deserve it,” she said.
The 22-year-old also revealed a relationship with men’s first team players Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones
“All three of us are young, we’re from Liverpool, we all know each other,” she said.
“Curtis especially, not only did we used to play for the same football team, but our families are quite close.
“My brother-in-law is brothers with Curtis’ sister, so I see him quite a lot,” the England U23 international added.
When asked whether she would rather they win the quadruple this season or her own team win the WSL next season, she was conflicted before eventually deciding on an answer.
“Both. Can’t I have both?”
When pushed for a definitive answer, she said: “I’m not picking.”
A party atmosphere?
It is an exciting time for Liverpool right now, the men’s first team fighting on all fronts and the women back where they belong, both with Scousers at the forefront.
The trophy lift is on Sunday, after the Reds face Sheffield United at Prenton Park.
A spokesperson for LFC Women said: “It should be a fabulous occasion as the team and staff get to celebrate their achievements with the fans who have been magnificent all season.
“We’re hoping for a really good crowd, especially as it’s Kids for a Quid, and there will be lots of entertainment in the family fun park before the game so get down early and soak up the atmosphere.”
The game kicks-off at 12pm. Fans can buy tickets here.
