Pole dancing is rising in popularity as more people become educated about the sport. But one Liverpool team captain still thinks there are obstacles to overcome.
Despite its growing popularity, many believe the sport is not inclusive.
Liverpool John Moores University Team captain Millie Jo, aged 20, said: “I think it’s one of the sports with the most misconceptions. One is that a lot of men feel that it is not a male dominated sport and it might not be male dominated, but it is a sport that is inclusive for everybody.”
“A lot of people think that you absolutely have to be a stripper to be a pole dancer, and although that’s where the roots come from, it is a very dynamic and athletic sport”.
