Over 8000 participants descended on the docks in the early hours of Sunday morning to take part in the annual Liverpool Santa Dash.
It was the 20th running of the event, which saw a record number of runners take on the 5k run, each for their own reasons.
One of those on the start line was rugby legend Kevin Sinfield, as he continues his efforts to raise money for the MND association following the passing of former Leeds Rhinos teammate Rob Burrow.
Sinfield is undertaking seven ultra marathons in seven days in his Running Home for Christmas challenge.
