Everton Women’s manager Brian Sorensen expressed his optimism ahead of the Blues’ WSL clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

He said: “It’s gonna be a massive game, we have a good record there, especially in my time, so it’s one we look forward to.”

Last time the two sides played at Anfield, in 2023, Everton won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Megan Finnigan, and the last time the teams met in the league this season, Everton also took the win.

After a rocky start to the season the Toffees have been slowly climbing up the league table since the beginning of the year, and are currently eighth in the league, two places behind Liverpool.

Sorensen said: “We want to pick up six points in the last two games, that’s for sure.

“Win at Anfield and then Tottenham in the last home game so we can finish the season as high as possible.”

The Dane also praised Clare Wheeler, who captained the Blues during their last game against Brighton:

“I think she’s playing some of the best football at the minute, she’s doing really well and I’m excited for her future, she’s a good player for us.”

Sorensen also recently signed a new two-year contract with Everton, and is optimistic that the club’s new ownership will benefit the women’s team.

“It’s been a tough two years, we had to sell all our best players all the time and had no budget but now we can finally look at strategically recruiting players that fit into the way that we want to play so (I’m) really excited,” he said.

Kick-off for Liverpool vs Everton will be at noon on Sunday.
