Merseyside boxer Robbie Davies Jr has expressed his desire for a rematch against Gabriel Valenzuela, after a close loss on points against the Mexican.

The former British, Commonwealth and European Super lightweight champion from Liverpool fell just short a couple weeks ago with two judges scoring the bout 96-95 and the third judge scoring it a draw.

This is the second shock in back to back weeks with Mexican opponents causing shock wins in the UK, as Mauricio Lara pulled out a stunning win against former IBF featherweight champion Josh Warrington.

Robbie Davies Jr replied to a tweet confirming that Josh Warrington wanted to rematch Lara, saying that he “loved the fighting spirit to go straight back in with Lara from Warrington. Put me on the same card.”

He also tagged promoter Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Boxing director Frank Smith and his manager Neil Marsh in the reply.

Davis Jr will be hoping that a rematch between the Merseyside fighter and the tough Mexican be made on the undercard of Josh Warrington’s rematch with Mauricio Lara.

Fans responded in agreement to Davies Jrs tweet regarding a second bout between the two:

@DreamsR4Real999 said “Respect Robbie. If it weren’t for the knockdown you could have possibly won that fight. Fine margins for you to work on.”

@robbo_casey was in agreement over the loss “Your attitude seems within the same positivity though Robbie! A loss only makes us stronger. You’ll both come back”

@Fester81Nick had this to say about both potential rematches, “Would love to see both fights again!”
