Merseysider Stephen Bunting was knocked out of the semi-final of the World Grand Prix by World Number One Gerwyn Price.
Bunting fell short in the semi-final despite taking a lead against Price, who lost the final to fellow Welshman Jonny Clayton.
‘The Bullet’ started their semi-final with an exceptional 13-darter praying on ‘The Iceman’s’ struggles.
It wasn’t until the second set that Price began to look like his usual self, as he began to pick up some momentum.
This did not set ‘The Bullet’ back however as one fatal missed dart cost Price and Bunting claimed the next set.
With reports circulating that Price was suffering from an apparent flare-up in the elbow injury which cost him his place in the Nordic Darts masters, Price took a longer break at the interval and finally arrived on stage two minutes late.
It was similar scenes as the break was over and Bunting soon held a 2-1 lead over Price in the fifth set.
But a sensational 12-dart leg and a crucial 96 finish thrust Price into the lead for the very first time in the match.
His champion pedigree was finally beginning to pay off and show – marking the end of ‘The Bullet.’
Price then moved into the final to face fellow Welshman, Jonny Clayton, where he ultimately lost.
Price started off impressively with a 160 checkout in the first leg but Clayton roared back to take the set which set the tone for the final.
Clayton took the next two sets before Price pulled one back showing a glimmer of hope for a comeback, but it wasn’t to be for the defending champ.
Jonny Clayton’s title win launches him into the top 10 for the first time in his career and earns him the healthy £110,000 cash prize.
