Sam Burgess’ Warrington Wolves secured their first victory in convincing fashion with a 36-10 scoreline against a youthful Hull FC side.

Warrington made their extra-man advantage count, running in five tries after Fa’amanu Brown was sent off just before half-time for a high tackle on Ben Currie.

Captain Danny Walker’s opening try for Warrington, converted by Josh Thewlis, set the tone for the Wolves’ strong start.

Hull FC responded, managing to level the score through Lewis Martin’s try, expertly converted by Darnell McIntosh.

The turning point of the match came just before halftime when Hull FC’s Brown was shown a red card for seemingly innocuous head clash – the third red card in two games for Hull FC.

The second half saw Warrington asserting their dominance.

A penalty try from Matty Ashton extended their lead and further scores from Toby King and James Harrison put the result beyond doubt.

Despite a late consolation try from Hull FC’s Connor Wrench, the gap proved too significant for the visitors to overcome.

Warrington’s victory will be welcome as Burgess, Super League’s youngest head coach, looks to make his mark on the competition.

In contrast, Hull FC’s young squad showed some promise and determination, but ultimately struggled to contain Warrington’s attacking prowess.

The match highlighted the challenges faced by Hull FC’s developing team, particularly against more experienced opponents.

However, it also provided valuable learning opportunities for the young players, who will no doubt benefit from the experience as the season progresses.

The win moves Warrington to fifth in the embryonic league table with Hull FC down in 11th with no wins on the board.

The Wolves host Castleford Tigers this Saturday as they look to begin a run of form.
