Wigan Warriors ace Jai Field is taking nothing for granted as his side prepares to take on Grand Final newcomers Hull KR at Old Trafford tomorrow.

Hull KR are making history as they enter their first Grand Final while Wigan are aiming to defend their title for the first time and claim a seventh crown since Super League’s inception in 1996.

The Warriors, yet again, breezed their way to the play-offs by finishing top before securing a 38-0 win over Leigh Leopards in the semi-final to seal a 13th Grand Final appearance.

But Hull KR have been near the top all season, and finished second in the table for the first time under Willie Peters.

Wigan full-back Field said: โ€œHull KR been one of the best teams all year, most consistent so itโ€™s going to make a good Grand Final.”

He also praised new Steve Prescott Man of Steel winner Mikey Lewis.

โ€œMikey Lewis has had a great year,” said Field.

“He has played all season so heโ€™s been very consistent so definitely a worthy winner.”

Hull KR will be without Oliver Gildart ahead of the match on Saturday due to a rib injury, the only player to have dropped out of the 21-man squad. Meanwhile Wigan coach Matt Peet has kept the same squad from the previous win in their semi-final.

Warriors are one of the four teams to have had their name on the trophy, along with St Helens, Bradford Bulls and Leeds Rhinos. The Warriors lifted the Super League trophy last season after beating Catalan Dragons 10-2.

Thursday’s training session at The Brick Community Stadium included a rehearsal for the pre-match build-up to prepare the players for a different atmosphere.

โ€œItโ€™s important all the timings, songs and national anthem is sorted so it is all there ready to go,” said Field.

“Itโ€™s a big game and hopefully there is going to be 70,000 people, so it is going to be loud.

โ€œWe try to keep it as a normal week, just train and wait for the game to come around and we will think about it then.โ€
