World darts champion Luke Humphries defeated Nathan Aspinall to be crowned Night at Darts in Warrington 2024 champion at the Parr Hall arena last weekend.
The main event, which ended 5-3, lit up the arena and saw a very close game, with Humphries getting the win with a very impressive 107 darts average.
He came back from 3-1 down and finally capped the night off with a double-ten finish.
Humphries, with another victory to his name and the number one in the world right now, is still continuing his dominance in the sport and has the PDC World Darts Championship in December to set his eyes on and defend.
Alongside the two finalists, a packed-out arena watched other darting legends such as Johnny Clayton, Daryl Gurney, Tony O’Shea, and Darryl Fitton.
“First of all I just wanna say how lucky we are to have The Asp in our sport, but to be world champion and to play at places like this all over the world, it was my dream,” Humphries said.
The first match-up of the night was Humphries against O’Shea, which ended in a 3-0 thrashing to the night’s winner.
Then it was on to the second clash, and after Aspinall’s famous walkout, he faced Fitton which Aspinall won 3-1.
After the match fans in the arena bid in a live auction, that went over £500 on multiple occasions, to play against the legends.
Archie Goodier, who won one of the bids to face a player, is an amateur pub darts player in Warrington. He stepped up to the oche and caused a big upset when he defeated Johnny Clayton in a one-leg match with a 62 checkout.
Then it was onto Clayton’s competitive match against the Superchin Gurney, which ended with the Ferret getting a 4-2 victory after a superb comeback from 2-1 down.
Despite the loss for Aspinall in the final, he was complimentary about his opponent.
“Forget Luke Littler, Luke Humphries is the best Luke and the best player in the world right now – we are lucky to have him,” Aspinall said.
The next year’s Night at the Darts at Warrington event sees the return of Luke the Nuke Littler back to his hometown, alongside Humphries, Robert Thornton, and Ricky Evans.
