Paddy McGuinness has completed his Children in Need charity bike ride, which passed through Liverpool this week.

The former Top Gear and Question of Sport host, 51, has managed to complete a 300-mile cycle on a chopper bike this morning, ahead of tonight’s program.

Children in Need is a charity set-up by the BBC for disadvantaged young people across the UK, and has raised over £1 billion since its first appeal in 1980.

The 51 year old crossed the river Mersey into Liverpool on Monday where he was greeted by children and adults alike singing The Beatles ‘Yellow submarine’.

McGuinness has managed to raise over £7 million during the cycle which started in Wrexham and ended in Glasgow, spanning five days.

This figure, however, is set to rise significantly after Scottish businessman, Sir Tom Hunter said he would double any donation made from Wednesday onwards, up to a limit of £3 million.

Speaking to the BBC before the start of his final 18-mile leg, McGuinness said: “As usual at this time in the morning, everything’s sore, everything’s aching.

“But I’ve just rocked up here where we’re going to set off, and its dark, it’s a little bit drizzly, and people are already here to wish me well, so you can’t not be in a positive state of mind with that.”

On Thursday, he was joined by Olympic cyclist, Sir Chris Hoy and has received multiple messages of support from the likes of astronaut Tim Peak and fellow comedian Peter Kay, as well as hundreds of listeners.

His inspiration for this challenge came from meeting individuals who have benefitted from Children in Need in the past.

He said: “When you meet these people… that’s what spurs you on, and when you see the work that’s being done in and around it, and again, when you’re out and about, just people stopping me.”
