Everton are a step closer to having new owners, as proposals by The Friedkin Group have received approval from the FA and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
It could finally mean the end of Farhad Moshiri’s eight year long troubled ownership.
Since 2016 Everton have become more of a mid table side at best, flirting with relegation twice. They were also deducted 10 points during the 2023/24 season for breaking Premier Leagues profit and sustainability rules.
The takeover from the American brothers has boosted optimism in the blue half of Merseyside. With the Everton takeover being imminent it is worth looking at how Roma have performed under the Friedkin Group, the other European team they own which they bought in 2020.
It’s been a controversial week. The Italian club have just sacked their manager Ivan Juric after just 2 months in charge. He replaced club legend Daniele Di Rossi after he came back to the club as head coach. Claudio Ranieri has now come out of retirement for his third spell at the club.
Ranieri will be the fourth manager the Friedkin Brothers have brought in since they acquired ownership of the Italian giants.
With this high turnover of head coaches, the next place to look is how they’ve performed in the Serie A, their league positions under the Friedkin group will have been of concern to the Roma fans.
The Giallorossi are yet to qualify for the Champions league under the American ownership. Between 2015 and up to the Friedkin takeover Roma qualified for the Champions League four times and reached the semi finals in 2018 after completing a historic comeback against Barcelona in the quarter finals.
Despite the concerning Roma stats Liverpool’s Mayor Steve Rotheram, and Avid Everton fans remains hopeful, and released released a statement on X: “This is great news for the club, fans and our wider region. Hopefully now it can begin to turn the page and move forward.”
