After making an impressive National Cup run and falling just short, Liverpool Handball Club’s women now set their eyes on the league playoffs and Liverpool International Handball Tournament.
On Saturday, the Liverpool women played against Loughborough in the National Cup final, the first in the team’s history.
Liverpool went into the game looking to make more history with a win, whilst Loughborough aimed for the only major trophy in British handball that they missed out on last season.
Loughborough took an early lead and never let up. By the end of the first half Liverpool were behind 7-16.
The second half was the same, with Loughborough continuing to be dominant.
Tosca Knight kept Liverpool competitive with 11 goals, but it was not enough. At the final whistle, Loughborough were ahead 35-17.
Loughborough’s Tabitha Dann Ward won Player of the Match honours for her play at left back.
However, spirits remained high for the Liverpool team as, despite coming up just short, the players enjoyed the moment, making history for their team.
Now, the Liverpool women must put the loss behind them as they look ahead to league playoffs and the Liverpool International Tournament.
They will face teams from the Southern Premier League in the upcoming weeks to determine their final position in the English leagues this season.
Liverpool’s women are aware of the tough games ahead of them but say they look forward to the challenge of playing unknown teams
At the end of May, they will also compete in the 25th anniversary Liverpool International Handball Tournament.
After finishing second in the tournament last year, they are looking to improve on their final position this year.
