Boxer Patrick Day has died at aged just 27. This news comes after Day was knocked out in his fight against Charles Conwell four days prior to his death. The knockout defeat led to him going into a coma.
The boxing community shared their support online this week as Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing, Lou DiBella and others shared their messages of condolence.
Unfortunately however, he was not able to recover.
Former Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin tweeted: “Our deepest condolences to the family, friends and the team of Patrick Day. Rest in Peace Pat.”
Tony Bellew also tweeted: “Woke up to truly heartbreaking news that Patrick Day has passed away! So very very sad… Rest easy champion.. #RIP #PatrickDay”
This is now the fourth death in the sport of boxing this year, questions are again to be raised on the safety of the sport.
