An extremely unlucky day yesterday meant it was the first day without a winner. Two of Paul’s selections were declared non-runners on the day, with his nap, Do You Know What, finishing in fourth place as he was simply not quick enough.
The four meetings today consist of two jumps (Fakenham and Uttoxeter) and two flats (Newcastle and Wolverhampton). Both jumps meetings take place throughout the afternoon and the flat racing taking up this evenings racing.
I will be selecting my picks today from the jumps racing, where a number of talented amateur jockeys are joined by the likes of Champion Jockey Richard Johnson, two-time Grand National winner Leighton Aspell and Cheltenham’s most successful Irish jockey, Barry Geraghty.
My tips:
NAP: Mcnamaras Band – 15:50 Uttoxeter
A maiden hurdle winner at Chepstow in March on good to soft ground in March, he is definitely capable of showing better this season. The step up from 2m 3f should suit the horse off a fair opening mark. Champion jockey Richie Johnson on board should see Philip Hobb’s horse in the winner’s enclosure.
NB: Jersey Bean – 15:00 Fakenham
A very useful handicap hurdler on its day, Jersey Bean will have learnt a lot from its last run at Perth in May when finishing 2nd. The horse lost its way towards the end of the last season but has potential to be a useful novice this time out. The race is a fairly competitive one, with a few horses all presenting good cases for winning.
Each-Way: Choochoobugaloo – 14:10 Uttoxeter
The soft ground will be a huge boost for Sam and Jonathan England for a horse that has previously ran well at the course. Despite looking likely to go over fences, its hurdles once more after going close on his chasing debut last time out. A previous winner over hurdles, he has only been raised 3lbs.
