Following months of closure, Liverpool Tennis Centre opens its courts once more.
The centre, located in Wavertree, has been occupied as a COVID testing site since November.
Although still in operation, members old and new can now enjoy the facilities as signs of ‘normality’ edges ever closer.
Managing director Jay appeared relieved that tennis has resumed after what has been an unfamiliar time for us all.
Speaking to Merseysportlive: “Just good to see tennis back in general, it’s been a long year”.
Due to the impact of COVID-19 enforcing stricter safety measures, there have been adjustments to re-joining the centre.
He said: “At the moment it’s online bookings only, inside is still a testing station so it’s only outdoor practice at the moment.
“You have to pay in advance as it’s easier for track and trace”.
Liverpool Tennis Centre remains an attractive venue for future players despite its new look.
He added: “We’re the only pay and play indoor tennis centre in Liverpool and there are quality outdoor courts”.
However, it isn’t guaranteed that every former member will return. There remains optimism that standards can pick up to where they once were.
Jay elaborated: “We’d have lost some experienced players who had potential that found other things to do.
“I’d like to see tennis back at the level where it was pretty soon”.
