Everton have hosted a stem cell donor clinic to register potential life-savers with the blood cancer charity, DKMS.
The event was set up in support of former Toffees defender Gary Stevens’ son, Jack, who remains in desperate need of a donor.
Stevens told Everton’s website: “I’d like to thank every person who attended Goodison Park over the weekend.
“The level of support for our family has been a source of comfort and we appreciate all the messages and help that we are getting.”
Everton promoted the event during the past few weeks and were pleased by the turnout on Saturday and Sunday.
DKMS is an organisation that seeks to persuade people to donate their blood in order to help people like Jack.
Reshna Ravinda, Head of Communications and Engagement at DKMS, told the Everton website: “We would like to thank the staff and supporters of Everton Football Club for making our stem cell donor registration drive over the weekend a success.
“About 200 people came forward to sign up in support of the campaign we’re delivering on behalf of Gary, and the generosity of the community was so impressive.”
Anyone between 17-55 and in good general health can still become donors. They simply need to register online for a home swab kit, or donating at www.dkms.org.uk/jack
