Former Everton stars Neville Southall and Gareth Farrelly joined hundreds to run in Everton in the Community’s “If You Know Your History” charity run.

After over a year of virtual charity events organised by the charity, this was the first in person event since the pandemic began, with runners trying to raise money for Everton’s new purpose-built mental health hub.

Taking place on World Mental Health Day, participants tackled an Everton-themed course.

The run, in partnership with race organisers BTR Liverpool, started at Rupert’s Prince Tower and finished at the home of Everton, Goodison Park.

Legendary goalkeeper Southall participated in the race once again and so far with supporters has helped raise a figure Everton describe to be “in the thousands”.

Southall told Everton website: “I’m delighted Everton are getting their [People’s Place] building because they’ve been at the forefront of mental health for years and before any other club.”

Farrelly added: “The nice thing about today is being able to do it in person after the last 18 months.

“We took part in the first one in 2019 and obviously the last one was virtual so great to see so many people here for such a positive event, and I’m always humbled to be part of it. “

The focus of this year’s run has been on mental health and the runners as well as Farrelly have been reflecting on the message of the run.

“There’s a significance to today, on World Mental Health Day, and you can feel the positivity of the people running and the people finishing, so it was really nice to be part of.”
