A protest is overshadowing Everton’s clash with Arsenal tonight, with fans urged to walk out after 27 minutes – in protest of 27 years without a trophy.
Ahead of the game under the lights at Goodison, our reporters have been in the streets of Liverpool, asking fans for their opinions on the planned protest.
One said: “No, I think that’s the wrong thing to do.
“You’ve got to behind them, not oppose them.”
Another added: “I understand it’s frustrating, we haven’t won a trophy in 27 years, but I don’t think we should do that.
“We’ve been booing our players but we should get behind them to make them play better.”
One fan going to Goodison Park tonight explained what will happen with the protest.
“Some people are going out the ground on the 27th minute, some people are going to the gantry for a couple of minutes then coming back up.
“Maybe I’ll go to the gantry – but I definitely won’t be leaving the ground.”
Everton fans want to voice their frustration through actions during the game.
But it raises questions within the fanbase, is this the right way to do it?
One fan was very critical of the idea:
“I think it’s very silly really, what difference is that going to do.”
And an Evertonian who has travelled from Ireland for the game, ruled out the idea when asked if he will leave his seat.
“No! We’ll stay where we are and absolutely get behind the team.”
For Toffees fans, they will be hoping the team can do the talking on the pitch regardless of what is planned off it.
If Everton go a goal down inside the first 27 minutes however, Goodison might empty quicker than expected.
