Harrison Jackson claimed the match ball as his hat-trick delivered victory for University of Liverpool in a 4-1 Varsity Games win in Futsal over Liverpool John Moores.
Jackson opened the scoring for UOL after an end to end opening few minutes.
John Moores almost had an equaliser immediately but for a great save from the opposition goalkeeper.
Joe Lee levelled for LJMU shortly after with a wonderful low driven effort.
Jackson thought he had re-established his side’s lead after a solo run but the goal was disallowed for a foul in the build up.
UOL were reliable in possession, however John Moores were dangerous when given the opportunity to counter attack after their opponents committed men forward.
Both goalkeepers made outstanding reflex saves regularly ensuring the game remained tense and increasingly competitive.
The game continued in a similar fashion, as the teams went into the break tied at 1-1.
Jackson bagged his brace shortly after the break finding the bottom right corner to reinstate UOL’s lead.
UOL established a two-goal lead in the 36th minute of the game, the strike was too powerful for the keeper to hold on to.
The UOL keeper was imperious in his search for a second half clean-sheet as his sharp saves ensured LJMU did not forge a path back into the game.
The visitors began to hold the ball in the corner in the closing stages, content with holding out their lead.
A late penalty converted by Jackson put the result beyond doubt, and UOL’s number seven completed his hat-trick in the process.
After the Futsal clash, Jackson said: “Unbelievable, we’ve had an incredible season at the University, we’ve been promoted into Northern 1A which is a big step up for the club.
“I’ve not managed a hat-trick this season yet. I’ve only managed to score two, so to score a hattrick on my Varsity debut is unbelievable.”
