Southport’s Tommy Fleetwood competes in the new double’s tournament Zurich Classic of New Orleans on Thursday.
Fleetwood is partnered with former Masters champion Sergio Garcia and will take on other high-profile golfers such as current World Number One Scottie Scheffler.
How does the tournament work?
80 teams will compete, using a rotating fourballs and foursomes’ system.
Fourballs will be played through rounds one-three which takes place between Thursday and Saturday.
The foursomes begin on Friday through to Sunday over rounds two-four.
Permutations
The Cut takes places on Saturday after the second round has finished with 33 teams remaining – advancing to the final two rounds of Foursomes.
Should there be a tie at the top of the leaderboard at the end of play on Sunday – a sudden death play-off hole will be played.
The first hole will be foursomes, the second fourballs and repeated until there is a winner decided.
Walk-On Music
Taking a lead out of Darts books, each team will walk out to their own music which will add an extra ambience to the event.
Who does Fleetwood face first?
Garcia and Fleetwood face Tyrell Hatton and former Masters champion Danny Willet this Thursday morning and again on Friday afternoon.
Fleetwood’s Form
Fleetwood has had a mixed beginning to the 2022 season despite some impressive performances.
The Southport born golfer had a poor start to 2022 with a T48 finish at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
Fleetwood recovered with a T12 finish at the Dubai Desert Classic and a T8 finish at PIF Saudi International.
He then missed the cut at the Honda Classic before securing at T20 finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
