After a barrage of blistering summer heatwaves, the temperatures around the UK have finally begun to drop. While most resort to coats, hot chocolates, and indoor activities around this time, the open water swimming activities at the Liverpool Water Sports Centre choose a different approach.
Some will call the people who show up in the early hours of Wednesday’s and weekends to take the plunge into the icy waters crazy. The swimmer’s themselves have other ideas.
Every cold-water swimmer will point to the miraculous mental healing powers of a dip in the dock. Whether they do it for the thrill or for charity, everyone has their own story to tell.
Forming a special micro-community, veterans, retirees, lifelong water sports and adrenaline enthusiasts all come together to create an atmosphere of motivation and camaraderie at the charity-driven centre that can serve as a much needed social space too.
