St Helen’s warmed up for their Super League campaign today with a 30-18 win against Australian side St George Illawara Dragons in Wollongong.
Tries from Lewis Dodd, Jack Welsby, Tommy Mackinson, Joey Lussick and Tee Ritson secured the win.
The Super League champions now head into next Saturday’s match against the Penrith Panther’s in the NRL Pre Season challenge.
The first half saw the Saints take a 10-point lead on 12 minutes with Dodd capitalising on James Roby’s kick.
Mackinson helped Welsby convert the Saints lead.
A tighter affair in the second half saw the Dragons fight back until St Helen’s Joey Lussick scored on the 64th minute.
Saints scored a fifth try when Ritson pounced on his chance.
The Dragon’s Savelio Tamale scored late on but it wasn’t enough to close the gap.
Saints, who are going for five back to back Super League titles this campaign, begin against Castleford Tigers on February 26.
