Liverpool suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Leicester City in the Women’s Super League this afternoon (February 12).
Hannah Cain scored the only goal of the game in the eighth minute following a corner from Courtney Nevin.
The Foxes were the better team in the first half, with three attempts at goal and two shots on target.
Although unable to score, the Reds dominated the second half with 61% possession and four shots on target.
Liverpool came close to equalising in the 69th minute when Ceri Holland’s shot was saved by Leicester goalkeeper Janina Leitzig.
Following that, Natasha Dowie’s headed shot hit the crossbar before another attempt flashed across goal.
Liverpool had a flurry of free kicks towards the end of the game, however they couldn’t make any of them count as the match ended 1-0 to the visitors.
Liverpool’s seventh loss of the season leaves them eighth in the table, two points ahead of Tottenham in ninth and five points behind West Ham in seventh.
Leicester remain bottom of the table, one point behind Reading in 11th.
After the international break, Liverpool visit fourth-placed Arsenal. The return fixture ended 2-0 to the Gunners.
Meanwhile, Leicester travel to league leaders Manchester United.
