AFC Liverpool secured an emphatic 6-2 victory against Barnoldswick Town in an action-packed encounter.
Skilful goals from Liam Paton sealed the victory for the Reds following a tough encounter which saw referee Sean Goldsmith produce eight yellow cards.
Tanaka Cherera had an outstanding performance, the winger caused havoc all game with his direct driving runs. He made the breakthrough for AFC after only 12 minutes, finishing well to capitalise on an excellent assist from captain Tom Croughan.
Cherera remained a constant threat, coming close to a second with a dangerous header across goal from the back post. Yet the visitors reacted well to going a goal down, forcing a couple of good saves from David Parkinson.
The Reds doubled their lead just before the break after a clever ball whipped across the goal came off a Barnoldswick defender and went past Callum Jakolevs in goal.
Only minutes later and the visitors responded through Gareth hill after a clever assist by Matty Argent Barnes to pull a goal back.
AFC Liverpool then extended the lead to 3-1 in the 59th minute, courtesy of a fantastic goal by Alex, who displayed blistering pace, cut back inside to beat his defender twice and rifled the ball past Jakolevs.
Barnoldswick fought back when Ryan Moore’s cross found Hill who was left unmarked at to head home for 3-2.
With 75 minutes on the clock Paton made a mazy run and virtually took on the whole Barnoldswick defence before his snap shot made it 4-2.
The game started to heat up, following a tough tackle and an altercation off the ball which resulted in four yellow cards.
The visitor’s defence was undone again in the 90th minute leaving Paton in acres of space. He powered forward and blasted the ball in off the post to make it five for the Reds.
AFC Liverpool sealed their victory in style with a goal in added time, as Paton showcased brilliant confidence in the box. The fans erupted in celebration, chanting for more.
