Taekwondo star Bianca Cook’s restaurant Di Scala Pizzeria will donate all money from take-out orders today (Wednesday) to under threat children’s hospice Zoe’s Place.

Zoe’s Place cares for babies and young children with life-limiting, life-threatening or complex conditions. The lease on the current West Derby site is up next year and the charity needs to raise £5 million in the next 30 days to stay open.

Three  time world Taekwondo champion Cook and her family have stepped in to support Zoe’s Place by generously donating Wednesday’s take-away proceeds from the restaurant she owns with parents Saeed and Anna Haraini.

Cook told Mersey Sport Live: “I just wanted to support as much as I could so I got in contact and said I want to help, if there’s any fundraising or anything I can do.

“The charity just said to spread the word on social media, which obviously I was going to do. With the support of my family, who I own the restaurant with, we decided to put on this event.”

Cook said: “Obviously I was born here, Liverpool’s my city and people here do what they can for their own, I’ll never lose that no matter what I’ve achieved in my career.

“This is a way to give back, to the city but also to help the families, they supported me as an athlete all through my career so I wanted to give back and support them.”

The double Olympic medalist joins a other Scouse athletes helping raise money for Zoe’s Place. MMA fighters Paddy Pimblett and ‘Meatball’ Molly McCann have also been at the forefront of media support.

Added Cook: “If anyone’s going to be able to get a miracle out of something Liverpool is the city to do it.

“I’ll definitely try and do something else, link it with Taekwondo, and hopefully try and raise as much money as we can. I think that’s the biggest thing.

“It doesn’t matter what we’re doing or how we’re doing it, as long as we can get together and do as much as we can to support Zoe’s place.”

Di Scala Pizzeria is located just an 11-minute walk down Deyes Lane in Maghull and are donating all funds raised through takeaway orders on Wednesday 16 October.
