Tom Davies has revealed the reasons behind Tranmere’s defensive solidity this season, as Rovers travel to Bromley in League Two.
There is just a point and a place between the two sides going into Saturday afternoon’s fixture. Tranmere have not lost in the last six meetings between the sides but are also on a run without a win in their previous six league games this season.
Captain Davies believes the trip to London could be a great opportunity to get a run of form going and will be looking to keep it tight at the back.
Despite sitting 19th in the league, Tranmere have only conceded 11 goals so far this season. That is one less than Port Vale who are top of the table.
Davies told Mersey Sport Live: “When the gaffer came in last year, he said we needed to be more solid. And that improved a lot last year.
“And then we worked on it a lot in pre-season. And I think you’re seeing the effects of that hard work where we have been quite solid defensively.”
However, it is at the other end of the pitch where Tranmere have struggled this term, having only scored five league goals. One shining light in attack has been Omari Patrick, who told Mersey Sport Live recently that he is thriving off the confidence shown in him by Rovers boss Nigel Adkins.
With three of those five goals to his name, Davies says he’s glad to have the summer signing from Sutton Utd at Prenton Park.
“He’s been involved in a lot of the good stuff we’ve done so far this season,” said Davies. “I feel that we need to assist Omari and help him so he doesn’t have to not burden all that weight.”
Nigel Adkins has had his players focusing on Bromley since Monday. Davies feels as if they know where this weekend’s hosts threats lie and is confident going into the game.
He said: “We know what they’re about. We know the threats that they possess.
“I think that we’ve got good attacking players. And when it clicks, you’re going to see what quality we’ve got.
“We go down there looking to win, and hopefully we can come back with the three points.”
