The Monaco Grand Prix will be on the F1 calendar for another six years at least.

The deal with the Automobile club of Monaco was due to expire at the end of 2025. Starting in 2026, the Grand Prix will be contested on the first weekend of June.

It is one of the sport’s most famous races… and the most glamourous.

Monaco has hosted a race every year since 1955 around the streets of Monte Carlo and it was part of the first world championship season in 1950.

Back in May, Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc secured his first victory in the Monaco Grand Prix in front of his home fans, and the challenge between Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz left them second and third on the podium.

The track is known for its tight corners, narrow streets and lack overtaking opportunities. Below are the top fastest lap times in Monte Carlo:

Mersey Sport Live has taken a look at some of the top moments on the Monte Carlo streets.

Ayrton Senna (1989-1993)

One of Monaco’s top moments in F1 history was Ayrton Senna’s unstoppable streak from 1989-1993. He was named the “King of Monaco” after securing six victories, eight podiums, and five pole positions.

Graham Hill (1963-1965)

Hill was known as Mr Monaco before Senna. His back-to-back victories from 1963- 1965 made him the first driver to achieve this and it is still talked about today.

Oliver Panis (1996)

Oliver Panis’ win in Monaco was the most unpredictable triumph of the 1990s.

He started 14th on the grid but a chaotic race saw only four drivers finish.

Michael Schumacher (2006)

A controversial moment for Schumacher became one of his most famous qualifying drives in his career and Monaco history.

The Ferrari driver was found guilty of deliberately obstructing his colleagues in the final minutes of qualifying at the Rascasse corner to prevent others improving their time.

He tried to argue it was an accident, but the stewards disagreed.

Lewis Hamilton (2008)

Hamilton has won a joint-record seven formula one world drivers’ championship titles.

The soon to be Ferrari driver  holds the record for the most wins, and pole potions with Michael Schumacher.

His 2008 win at Monaco was a tough one to say the least. The wet and slippy roads on the French Rivera allowed Hamilton to quickly pit stop gamble, changing his tyres earlier than his competitors.

The smart move paid off as he won his first race in Monaco.
