Southport FC host Marine this Saturday in the first league meeting between the two sides in over 20 years.

The hosts will hope to improve their form after back-to-back losses away from home against King’s Lynn Town and Curzon Ashton.

Southport sit 13th in the National League North table having won seven games, drawing four and losing seven.

Meanwhile Marine are down in 22nd having won four, drawing four and losing nine, making this an important game if they wish to turn their season around.

They will be looking to build on their victory over Needham Market and draw against Spennymoor in order to start climbing up the table to avoid being relegated back down to the Non League Premier.

Marine finished third in the Northern Premier League last season and went on to beat Macclesfield in the play-off final to gain promotion to the National League North.

Southport finished 17th last season so are currently on track to see an improvement this campaign, but if they lose this weekend it could potentially see them fall down to 16th.

The home side have a good record at the Big Help Stadium this season having only lost two out of the 10 games played there, where they were defeated by Hereford who are placed ninth and Curzon Ashton who are fifth.

On the other side Marine have only managed to win one away game so far this term, drawing one and losing five while only scoring two goals away from home and conceding 13.

With their performances so far this season Southport should be the favourites for this weekend’s clash, but anything can happen in football.
