Everton are set to play Liverpool this weekend in what will be the last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

The fixture has been one of the biggest on the English football calendar for years, especially for fans of the respective clubs.

Mersey Sport Live takes a look at the five biggest-scoring games between the rivals over the past decade.

Liverpool 3-1 Everton, 1st April 2017

This match saw goals from Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi for Liverpool whilst Matthew Pennington scored for Everton.

The Blues finished seventh this season, just three spots behind their rivals in fourth.

This game proved to be important as Liverpool finished just one point above Arsenal and as we know, went on to make it to the Champions League Final where they played Real Madrid.

Liverpool 4-0 Everton, 20th April 2016

This battering for The Blues saw goals from Origi and Coutinho, again, as well as Mamadou Sakho and Daniel Sturridge.

Ramiro Funes Mori was sent off early into the second half for the losers.

In the end the result didn’t really have a major effect on league standings as the Reds ended in eighth place while Everton finished in 11th.

Everton 2-2 Liverpool, 17th October 2020

The draw saw Mane scoring once again, this time being joined by Mohamed Salah with Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring for the hosts.

This game will be remembered by many fans as the game where Virgil van Dijk tore his ACL, derailing Liverpool’s season after they had won the league the seasons before.

Richarlison was also shown a red card in the 90th minute after a bad challenge on Thiago, who was also injured after this game.

This game had a massive impact for Liverpool the as the consequences of Van Dijk’s absence was felt for the rest of the season where they struggled to get into the top four for most of the time, finally finishing in third while Everton finished 10th.

Everton 1-4 Liverpool, 1st December 2021

Salah made his mark again in this game scoring twice, alongside Jordan Henderson and Diogo Jota as Demarai Gray scored the only goal for Everton.

The victors were back on the trophy hunt during this season in their “quadruple chasing season” – finishing second in the league.

They were just one point behind Manchester City for the second time as the Blues avoided relegation by just four points in what would become a bit of a trend for them in the following years.

Liverpool 5-2 Everton, 4th December 2019

The home side thrashed their rivals in yet another winter fixture with familiar faces Mane and Origi finding themselves scoring again with the latter scoring twice. Also amongst the goal scorers was Xherdan Shaqiri, Georginio Wijnaldum, Keane and Richarlison.

Liverpool fans will remember this game fondly as they found themselves eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table after their victory and, of course, went on to win the competition later in the season.

They finished 18 points ahead of second placed Manchester City as Everton finished 12th.

Fans of the Reds will be hoping history is repeated when it comes to playing Everton in December, while the home fans will be hoping for a good send off for Goodison Park and to derail their rival’s title hopes.
