When Bootle FC visited Avro FC in the Northern Premier League Division One West, the ninth tier of English football, tragedy chants could be heard being directed towards the Bootle fans.
Tragedy chanting is when fans engage in offensive chanting referring to opposition teams’ club disasters. For Liverpool fans, this often means tragedy chants refer to the 1989 Hillsborough disaster which led to the deaths of 97 people.
The club based in North Liverpool condemned the behaviour of the actions of the section of fans, and some Bootle fans in attendance said they had ‘never experienced anything like it’ before.
