A shot-putter from a Cheshire athletics club is looking forward to a bright future in the sport and hopes physical activity can have the same benefits for others.

Members of West Cheshire Athletics Club marked National Obesity Awareness Week, which ran from January 10-16, and reflected on the role of physical activity in improving health.

Athlete Sidney Shorrock said: “Finding a sport I loved helped me to look forward to my future. I think looking forward to something is going to help you do a lot of things.”

Obesity is a growing concern, increasing the risk of chronic illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease.

Engaging in regular physical activity, whether through sports, walking, or simple exercises, is vital for maintaining a healthy weight and improving mental well-being. Small, consistent steps toward an active lifestyle can make a significant difference.
