Warrington Wolves Women’s Rebecca Nixon gives her insight into how changing training methods could be beneficial for women in Rugby League to decrease the likelihood of ACL injuries
Nixon suffered an ACL injury in the last game of the season against Huddersfield Giants in the first tackle of the game, putting her on the side-lines until the foreseeable future.
The 21-year-old expressed her disappointment in not being able to play under newly appointed coach Ged Ginty.
She said: “I’ve had a few conversations with him last season, he was positive and what he was saying to the team sounded good. It was nice to have a fresh start, and not being a part of that was gutting.”
The winger, who studies Sports Therapy at Edge Hill University, highlighted the importance of changing certain methods of training to better suit the bodies of women and protecting the specific tissue around the knee.
