The game saw Slot as well as Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones receive red cards after the full-time whistle.

Slot said: “I like a lot that [Curtis] stands up for the team, but there are other ways for the team and the fans to do that. I will talk with him about that.

“The same for me, I should have acted differently after the game as well. But it’s an emotional sport as well and sometimes individuals make the wrong decision and that’s definitely what I did.”

Despite the red cards, the Liverpool boss saw many positives to take into the rest of the season.

Slot said: “The team were mentally so so strong during a game played in difficult circumstances for them, so to fight and be so strong that gives me a lot of confidence for next 14 games.”

Liverpool’s next game is on Sunday against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Points from this game could have lasting implications for Liverpool’s title hopes and Wolves’ relegation fight.

Wolves have more than doubled their points since Vítor Pereira’s takeover in December.

A key part of Wolves’ turnaround is forward Matheus Cunha, with 11 goals in 23 appearances.

Slot said: “Wolves are 17th and if you go to Holland there’s no player in the 17th-placed team who could play at Ajax, PSV, or Feyenoord.

“But Cunha is a quality player and has the quality to play for one of the top five teams in England.”

With both teams aiming to finish strong, Sunday’s match promises to be a pivotal encounter for Liverpool and Wolves.

Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM at Anfield.
