The new Super League season opened with a bang as a number of records fell on a historic weekend.
It was one of extremes that saw the record for the lowest scoring game opening the weekend, before St Helens set the largest ever winning margin in their game against the Salford Red Devils.
The Saints sit at the top of the Super League opening round as they are looking to force their way back into title contention after a challenging 2024.
Now that the dust has settled on an explosive opening to the 2025 Super League season, here is every record that fell in round one.

Largest opening round attendance
The Battle of the Borough between the Wigan Warriors and Leigh Leopards opened the season and the game was watched by a bumper crowd.
21,478 fans packed into the Brick Community Stadium as a new record for an opening round attendance was set.

According to TBR Rugby League, last season’s opening game between Hull FC and Hull Kingston Rovers set a new high watermark with 20,014 fans watching the Black and Whites succumb to a heavy defeat.
These two crowds pushed the previous record of 18,467, set by the Leeds Rhinos in 2008, down into third place.
Lowest scoring game in Super League history
The huge crowd at the Brick Community Stadium witnessed an intense, low-scoring affair.
For the first time in Super League history, Wigan and Leigh played out a tense 0-0 draw.
The game was eventually settled by a Golden Point drop-goal from the Leopards’ Gareth O’Brien.
The previous lowest score in a Super League game was 4-0, which has occurred on three occasions, the most recent of which saw the Warrington Wolves record a low-scoring win over Hull FC in 2022.
This was only the third game to finish with no tries scored: The Wolves’ win over Hull was the second and the other occurred in 2007, when Salford beat Harlequins 5-2.
Largest winning margin in Super League history
In a remarkable coincidence, the smallest winning margin in Super League history was swiftly followed by the largest winning margin in the competition.
With the Salford Red Devils’ squad hampered by ongoing financial sustainability restrictions, St Helens scored 15 tries in an 82-0 victory.

This surpassed three games which finished with an 80 point margin of victory: Leeds 86-6 win against the Huddersfield Giants in 1999, Bradford’s 96-16 win over Salford in 2000 and Warrington’s 80-0 win over Wakefield Trinity.
Most tries by a Super League debutant
Tristan Sailor enjoyed a memorable debut for St Helens, grabbing four of their 15 tries on his first Super League appearance in the Red Vee.
Sailor’s try-scoring feat means he now holds at least a share of the record for the most tries on Super League debut.
Wigan’s Bevan French holds the record for the most tries in a Super League game with seven tries scored against Hull FC in 2022.
He surpassed former Bradford powerhouse, Lesley Vainikolo who scored six against the same opposition in 2005.
17 players have scored five tries in a game, but none of them were on debut, meaning that no player has ever scored more tries than Sailor on their first appearance in the competition.
