Everton’s last few summer transfer windows have been plagued by restrictions after multiple Financial Fair Play scares.

In December 2024, Everton were taken over by the Friedkin Group. This ended the controversial reign of former owner Farhad Moshiri.

Evertonians will be hoping the new owners will be giving Manager David Moyes a substantial budget this summer to add to his talented, yet thin squad.

Moyes spoke to Evertontv after the 1-1 draw with West Ham United on Saturday:

“Don’t be kidded – nine unbeaten [in the Premier League] is good. Obviously, we’d rather win the games and we’re trying to win the games but we’re short in quality, at times, and we’re trying to improve in what we’re doing, trying to play better, trying to make more chances – but we’re still, one way or the other, short on quality at times and we have to do the best we can with what we have.”

There will be multiple areas of the pitch David Moyes will be looking to improve in the next transfer window.

Right Back

Despite Jake O’Brien’s impressive performances coming into the side since the arrival of David Moyes, the club should be looking at a new ‘out and out’ right back. O’Brien, who been impressive both in attack and defence, will likely be moved back to his favoured centre back position next season. Seamus Coleman is also out of contract in the summer and Nathan Patterson hasn’t proved reliable for the Toffees.

There has been a lack of rumours recently for this position, but Everton could look at bringing in Kyle Walker-Peters from Southampton. His contract is running down this summer and it looks certain that the Saints will be relegated this season. He has been linked with a move to Merseyside countless times in the past, with Football Insider reporting that he was available for a move in the January window. He could be a cheap option that Everton could look at to expand their options in the position.

Left Back

With Ashley Young’s contract running out this summer, the only remaining left back in the squad will be Vitaliy Mykolenko, so Everton may well be looking at another as backup or may choose to offer Young a contract extension. Kyle Walker-Peters, mentioned above could also offer some versatility for both full back positions.

Centre Midfield

Both Abdoulaye Doucoure and Idrissa Gana Gueye’s contracts are both running out this summer. These two players have had a huge impact on Everton’s midfield over the years. There has been some difficulty renewing Doucoure’s contract due to his wage demands, so the club may opt to let him go. Meanwhile, they will hope to give Gueye an extension after another impressive campaign. He currently has 110 tackles this season, the most in the league.

According to Talksport, Everton have been looking at Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff. He could offer some depth in the position if either Doucoure or Gueye depart.

Winger

With a significant lack of goals and assists from the flanks, Moyes will be looking at bringing in a winger or two to contribute to the team’s attacking output.

Jesper Lindstrom and Jack Harrison are both on loan and may go back to their respective clubs at the end of the season. Unless they have an upturn in form, Everton may be hesitant to bring them back to the club next season.

There have been multiple links with West Bromwich Albion winger Tom Fellows. This season the 21-year-old has two goals and 11 assists in the Championship. According to Football Insider, the Toffees have reignited interest in the player. Certainly, one for the future, he could be the answer to some of Everton’s creative woes.

Striker

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has long been unreliable for Everton and has suffered many injury problems over the last few years. His contract is also running out at the end of the season. Beto has come in this season due to the Calvert-Lewin long-term injury and has scored 6 goals in 21 Premier League matches. However, if Everton want to be looking further up the table next season, they should be looking at adding a new striker to their squad.

There has been some talk of Everton looking at Emanuel Emegha from Strasbourg. He has scored 11 goals in 20 Ligue 1 matches this season. According to TBR Football, Everton are readying a bid for the Dutchman. He is 6ft 5in, the perfect profile for a typical David Moyes striker. He could be one to look at for the Blues this summer.

Summary

All signs are pointing towards a busy transfer window for Everton. The Friedkin group should be able to fund the clubs biggest summer transfer window in years. It will be the first season in the new stadium and the club will be determined to excite the fans with some marquee signings.
