British touring car driver and former karting world champion Dexter Patterson took two Jack Sears victories in his return to the BTCC grid at Donington Park.

Patterson said: “Had a sense of failure in qualifying [on Saturday].

“It was nice to get through the grid, and get a top ten finish and the Jack Sears for [race one and two].”

He now sits 12th in the drivers standings and second in the Jack Sears trophy standings.

Reflecting on his return, he spoke about key influences in his racing journey, including former F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel.

Patterson, from Scotland, said: “I met him at the FIA awards after I won the Karting World Championship.

“He took the time to speak to me and my dad for at least an hour or two.

“I gave him my business card, and then for Christmas, I got a handwritten Christmas card from Seb.

“It was just saying if you want any help with [anything], there’s my phone number, just ask me.

“I’ve texted him before, and he’s gotten back to me within half an hour.

“It just shows you the type of guy he is, you know what I mean. He’s really not your typical F1 driver.”

The next BTCC races are on May 11 at Brands Hatch, with the tour set to race at Oulton Park near Liverpool on June 22.
