Everton Women beat Liverpool 2-0 at Anfield to secure the league double over the Reds.

Liverpool have now gone seven league derbies without beating Everton.

With only one game remaining in the WSL this season, Everton now have a chance to pass Liverpool in the standings on the final day.

Liverpool interim manager Amber Whiteley said: “I think it’s important that we reflect on the work that we’ve done since I’ve taken charge.

“There are lots of positives to take forward, but obviously we want to keep improving.

“We’ve got a big one next week at Chelsea, so let’s see how we fare up in comparison to when we played them in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.”

For Everton manager Brian Sørensen, the win was a bright spot in a difficult season.

Sørensen said: “The last two years we had no money, had to sell our best players, had the thinnest squad in the league by a mile.

“And then we had key players going out, it felt like every week almost.

“[given our position] right now and that potentially in the last game we could go past Liverpool, I don’t think anyone thought that 10 rounds ago.”

Shrinking numbers for the Derby, but growth overall

Both Liverpool and Everton have struggled on the pitch this year, with both teams ending with more losses than wins.

This downturn in performance not only impacted their place in the standings but also attendance at the Merseyside derby on Sunday.

It was the lowest Anfield derby attendance since Liverpool rejoined the WSL in 2022.

According to club records, the Merseyside Derby is normally the highest-attended home match for both teams every season.

The stat holds for Everton this year, but Liverpool’s top home crowd goes to Manchester City, which drew over 17,000 people to Anfield.

This also marks the first time since their promotion that Liverpool’s highest attended home match drew fewer than 20,000 people.

But, the attendance news for this season is not all bad.

The average overall for both Merseyside teams grew, and Everton can still increase theirs with one home game remaining.

Despite a tough year, women’s football on Merseyside still saw growth.

Both clubs are set to strengthen in the off season and return better for the 2025–26 season.

With one final match day ahead, Everton will be hosting Tottenham at Walton Hall Park.

Liverpool will travel to Stamford Bridge to take on league Champions Chelsea.
