With 2020 drawing to a close, it is a time to look back over the year’s events.
In a year like no other, we saw Liverpool finally lift the Premier League trophy and produce 105 goals across all competitions.
So we’ve decided to reflect on the best of 2020, and have ranked the top five Liverpool games in what was a historic year for the Reds.
5. Liverpool 2-0 Manchester United
This game makes the top five as the game that all but confirmed Liverpool’s title.
The win put them 16 points clear with a game in hand whilst simultaneously beating their oldest rivals for good measure.
A towering header from Virgil Van Dijk was followed by a Mohammed Salah goal in stoppage time that sparked mesmeric celebrations that will live fondly in Liverpool fan’s memories.
4. Crystal Palace 0-7 Liverpool
In the run up to Christmas, Liverpool produced a monstrous seven-goal display away at Crystal Palace.
This was another perfect example of their attacking qualities which were on show here, as they proved why they are the reigning champions.
Minamino, Mane and Firmino all made it three before half time, before Henderson, Firmino again and a late double from Salah rounded off a brilliant afternoon for the Reds.
3. Atalanta 0-5 Liverpool
In the Champions League, Liverpool put on one of their best away attacking performances under Klopp as they swept aside last year’s Champions League quarter-finalists Atalanta.
A hattrick from new signing Diogo Jota as well as a goal each for Salah and Saido Mane as Liverpool flexed their attacking muscles to show just why they are so dangerous with this clinical display.
2. Liverpool 4-3 Leeds
What a game this was to start the season off; Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds came to Anfield on the first day of the season and took the game to the champions.
Liverpool were always ahead of the Yorkshire side, but kept finding themselves being pegged back by Bielsa’s men.
Nobody quite expected Leeds to score three at Anfield but goals from Jack Harrison, Patrick Bamford and Mateusz Klick shocked the reds.
However, a poor challenge by Rodrigo late on gave Salah the chance to win it and he converted an 88th minute pen to snatch victory to get off to a winning start.
1. Liverpool 5-3 Chelsea
After football had returned from the break, Liverpool welcomed top four chasing Chelsea to Anfield in a game which did not disappoint.
Naby Keita scored a blistering drive to open the scoring, as the Reds ran riot in the first half, leading by three goals to one at half time.
Firmino’s header broke his personal goal drought at Anfield to further extend the lead after a typically brilliant ball from Alexander-Arnold.
However, Chelsea struck back thanks to a brilliant display from substitute Christian Pulisic, who’s goal and assist brought the Blues in touching distance.
However, late on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain struck the decisive blow to round off a blitzing counter-attack to finally see of the Blues and end a brilliant game.
