Everton duo Ben Godfrey and Tom Davies start for England Under-21s as they kick-off their European Championship campaign against Switzerland.
Liverpool’s Curtis Jones begins the game on the bench.

0: England kick-off
2: England lining up with a back 3, with Max Aarons and Dwight McNeil as the two wing-backs. Oliver Skipp and Tom Davies play in central-midfield, with Callum Hudson-Odoi and Emile Smith Rowe pushing forward in support of skipper Eddie Nketiah
10: England dominating the possession early on, but Switzerland are well organised in defence, Hudson-Odoi getting some joy down the right-hand side in the first 10 minutes
14: Big chance for Switzerland; poor cross-field pass from Ben Godfrey is intercepted and Zeqiri finds himself one-on-one with Aaron Ramsdale, but a weak finish with his right foot is comfortably saved. England counter attack quickly and the ball is worked to Davies who fires just over the bar from outside the box. England should be behind
19: Davies lays the ball off to Hudson-Odoi who wriggles his way past 2 defenders in the box, but shoots wide of the far post with his left foot
24: England’s build up play becoming a lot sharper. Aarons and Hudson-Odoi link up well on the right side and the Swiss just about deal with a dangerous cross by Aarons
27: Ndoye works the ball onto his right foot 25 yards out and draws a save from Ramsdale low down at his near post. The resultant corner is well worked by Switzerland and Zeqiri heads just wide. England with the majority of the ball but the Swiss with the best chances in the first half-an-hour
32: Nketiah muscles his way past Muheim on the by-line on the right-hand side and there are appeals for handball as the cross is blocked, but the referee immediately dismisses those claims. Lloyd Kelly rises above his marker at the corner but heads wide, England’s best chance of the half so far.
40: Switzerland making life difficult for England, putting pressure on the 3 centre-halves when in possession and able to get bodies behind the ball when England are in the final third. England finding joy when the passing is quick and sharp, and when Nketiah or Hudson-Odoi have taken on defenders.
43: Positive play by Toma for Switzerland who drives forward and reaches the by-line. Shouts of handball as Marc Guehi blocks the cross but the referee again waves away the claims.
45: Half-time and it’s England 0-0 Switzerland. England controlling the ball but the best chance of the game fell to Zeqiri, who finished poorly. England’s chances have been limited but Kelly should’ve done better as he headed wide from a corner.

46: Thanks David. No changes for either side at the break. Switzerland get us back underway.
50: Post! Switzerland a fraction away from going in front after Davies’ pass to Aarons is intercepted. Guillemenot cuts back to the right side of the area for the arriving Toma, who beats Ramsdale but sees his effort strike the woodwork.
57: England are focusing most of their attacks down the left-hand side, where McNeil and Hudson-Odoi are looking to combine. But Switzerland are proving resolute, with Lotomba defending diligently.
60: Guehi is shown the first yellow card of the game for a studs-up challenge on Guillemenot 10 yards over halfway.
63: And now Bamert joins him in the book for shoving Nketiah as the Arsenal forward looked to pressure the goalkeeper.
64: Hudson-Odoi looks to bend the resulting free-kick into the top right corner but Racioppi pushes the ball away to safety.
66: Curtis Jones enters the fray, replacing fellow scouser Davies. Boothroyd also introduces Eberechi Eze in place of Smith-Rowe.
Imeri on for Guillemenot for Switzerland.
74: Substitute Imeri steps in from the left flank and tries his luck, with Ramsdale getting down to make the stop. Switzerland, in truth, look the more likely.
76: Another double switch for the Young Lions. Nketiah and McNeil off, Brewster and Sessegnon on.
Former Liverpool man Brewster, of course, has yet to score at club level this season.
77: Goal. Switzerland do make the breakthrough. Imeri comes up with a clever lay-off for Ndoye on the edge of the penalty area, and his scuffed effort floats over Ramsdale and into the net.

85: England’s initial response to the goal hasn’t been encouraging. Switzerland have looked assured throughout.

88: Ramsdale looks to launch a quick counter but his throw evades Jones and skids out for a throw-in. Rather sums it up.

FT: Switzerland comfortably see it out and collect a deserved three points in this Group D opener. Ndoye’s goal proves to be the difference and leaves England with it all to do ahead of their meetings with Portugal and Croatia.
Boothroyd’s side occasionally threatened from set-pieces but struggled to break Switzerland down. For all their possession – 67% – they managed only a single shot on target.
