Sixty-seven athletes including Liverpool’s Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Jamie Webb have been offered membership to join the British Athletics Olympic World Class Programme (WCP) for 2021/22.
The WCP is UK Sport’s initiative funded by the National Lottery, aimed at aiding success in reaching named milestone targets.
The targets mainly surround outdoor track World and European Championships and Olympics Games.
The programme is split into levels which reflect the actual and potential performance levels of athletes.
These levels include Podium, Podium Potential and Confirmation.
Johnson-Thompson is confirmed as Podium level, while Webb is Podium Potential.
The Confirmation level is a new level that has been added to the WCP, designed to support athletes in their first two years on the programme.
This level provides a period where the athlete is accessed to explore their potential.
Jamie Webb, of Liverpool Harriers Athletic Club, won bronze and silver medals at the European Indoor Championship in the 800m in 2019 and 2021 respectively.
Katarina Johnson-Thompson, also of Liverpool Harriers, won gold in the Heptathlon at the 2019 World Championships.
The 28-year-old became the British record holder in the process with a score of 6,981 points.
