Everton manager Frank Lampard has questioned his players’ confidence after suffering yet another defeat.

The Toffees were hammered 4-0 away to Crystal Palace which saw them dumped out of the FA Cup at the quarter-final stage.

The ex-Chelsea midfielder spoke of the lack of belief going through the side right now.

“There’s only so much you can keep trying to butter someone up to give them confidence,” he said.

“There’s a balance of confidence and playing at the cut-throat end of football.

“This is a quarter final today to get to Wembley.

“If you haven’t got the confidence to play, then you can quickly flip to say have you got the b******s to play?

“Excuse me, but that’s the football reality.

“If you fall somewhere in the middle, don’t worry about it.

“We didn’t play that badly today and Palace didn’t play that well and we lost 4-0, because of a lack of confidence and a lack of what I just said.”

Everton fans took to Twitter to vent their frustration:

“This is the worst Everton team I’ve ever seen.

It’s not only a truly terrible, it cost a fortune, has zero character, leadership or winners.”

Another saying:

“They can’t do the basics.

Mark a man, follow your man, compete and win your individual battles.

Hopefully survive and clear out the dross.”

Everton now face an uphill battle to retain their Premier League status as they sit precariously above the drop zone in 17th place.
