Despite the World Cup winter break, the scouting work never stops for clubs across Europe who will be keeping an eye out for potential stars in Qatar.
Players in the shop window can cash in. James Rodriguez’s stellar 2014 campaign in Brazil earnt him a dream move to Real Madrid.
In recent years, Liverpool’s scouting network and transfer deals have been one of the most successful in the world. Shrewd acquisitions such as Andrew Robertson, Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane combined with record breaking signings Virgil Van Dijk and Alisson Becker helped fired the Reds back to the pinnacle of club football. Some players out in Qatar are bound to end up at Anfield sooner rather than later. But who is most likely to be a target for Jurgen Klopp?

Jude Bellingham
It is no secret that Liverpool’s midfield will require reinforcements, the emergency loan signing of Arthur on transfer deadline day is evidence of that, Jude Bellingham is hot property. The Dortmund star has all the qualities required to be one of the best in the world and at just 19 years old he is on his way to achieving that. He first broke onto the scene making his debut at 16 for his boyhood club Birmingham. Dortmund paid £25 million for his services at just 17-years’-old and his stock has only risen. Liverpool were linked back in his Birmingham days and the speculation has only increased. His ability to play as a box-to-box or defensive midfielder shows his versatility and will only make him more attractive to Klopp.
Competition for his signature will be fierce this summer and a rumoured price tag of £130 million would shatter Liverpool’s previous record signing. His age, ability and attitude suit Klopp’s and FSG’s transfer policies and makes him the perfect player to add to this Liverpool squad.
Mason Mount
A surprise potential target is Chelsea’s Mason Mount. The striker has entered the final 18 months of his contract and talks with the club have stalled. This could be opportunity for Liverpool to make their interest known. Having battled against him in back-to-back cup finals last season, Jurgen Klopp’s side know of his abilities. Able to play in midfield or upfront he would provide an attacking threat from deep. He played a pivotal part in England’s win over Iran and is a key member of Gareth Southgate’s squad for the World Cup.
If a transfer is to materialise, he would be a world-class addition for Liverpool, yet, being a Chelsea fan and coming up through their academy may make it difficult to lure him away.
Cody Gakpo
The Dutch international has started brightly at the World Cup, scoring the opening goal against Senegal. The tricky winger boasts electric pace and good skills, and it is clear to see why he is target. After an impressive last season with 36 goal involvements in 47 games it was surprising he didn’t make a move in the summer. His form has continued this year which has led to further rumours. He also stated in an interview with Dutch web site NOS: “It would be an honour to play there”, when referring to Liverpool.
Dutch counterpart, Van Dijk, could act as deal maker to help persuade the 23-year-old to come to Anfield and link up with Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Mohammed Salah. The winger would be a welcome addition to Klopp’s frontline and provide healthy competition.
Moises Caicedo
The cheaper alternative to Bellingham, Liverpool may make a move for the Ecuadorian. The midfielder is amid a breakthrough campaign with Brighton after replacing Yves Bissouma who made the switch to Tottenham. The 21-year-old is versatile with pace and a strong defensive awareness. He would add a much-needed energy to the midfield and provide a an option to any current players at Klopp’s disposal.
