Marine Boss Neil Young wants his team to be better in the final stages of the game after a 2-2 draw against Spennymoor.

The Mariners conceded in the 90th minute after leading the game for over 40 minutes. Spennymoor took the lead with a fantastic play which was finished off by Isaac Fletcher.

But just before the break James Brown levelled the game up after making a run towards the back post before finding the back of the net.

Just after half-time Calum Agius gave Marine the lead in his first start for the club.

But Aidan Rutledge equalised to stop Marine from taking home all three points.

Young didn’t hide the fact he felt let down by his side despite having a good second half.

He said: “Very frustrating you know, I thought of the first 20 minutes. They were a much better team and we struggled to get used to their shape. Once you got to grips with it and got back in the game, the goal from James I thought we was good for the rest of the first half.”

He also thought his team lacked energy towards the end of the game.

Young said: “Ultimately, we switched off again. You know, from me in the game, we’ve got people not doing their jobs.

“Let’s be honest, and brutal about it, that’s why we’ve gone five at the back so we can protect.

“Josh hasn’t played for a while and protect the defence a little bit more. We’ve got to get out to the ball.

“You can’t keep sinking back and you’ve got to stop the shots. And we didn’t do either of those.

“And then the last five or six minutes they’re on top. And then you’re hoping that you can definitely get a point when you probably should have had three.”

Despite missing out on a chance to climb out the of the bottom four there were positives in the game for Young.

He explained: “Overall performance wise, probably one of our best overall performances, I think of the season.”

Up next for Marine is the derby against Southport which kicks off at 3pm this Saturday.
