Liverpool middleweight Anthony Fowler stopped his opponent Theophilus Tetteh in the first round tonight.
Fowler, who left world level trainer Coldwell to join Shane McGuigan’s camp, had his first test under his new coach, which proved to be a very bizarre one.
Tetteh, a late notice replacement for middleweight contender Jack Flatley (pulled out due to injury), began to slip all over the ring, in what looked like a terrible dancing on ice audition, as was knocked down four times within the first round.
Tetteh continued to struggle in staying upright due to an apparent lack of grip with his boots, at which point the referee waved the fight off with Fowler claiming a dominant first round TKO victory.
After the fight, Fowler vowed to take his revenge on Preston middleweight Scott Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald previously beat Fowler via a split decision 12 months ago.
“I’m coming for you son,” said Liverpudlian Fowler.
“Let’s have a 12-round war for the fans, you will not beat me this time”, guaranteed Fowler.
Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that a rematch will go ahead providing Fitzgerald wins his fight in May.
“It’s time to step up for the Scott Fitzgerald rematch. Fitzy will box on May 2. The rematch is in July.”
With both middleweights previously creating a great spectacle for boxing fans, many of them will be delighted to hear that a rematch is now on the table.
