Rugby Union is a game of point scoring. Five points for a try - potentially seven with the conversion - as three points via penalty kicks or drop-goals. It's a sport set up for a points fest. But not when Southport met Preston Grasshoppers!

Widnes Vikings face Leigh Centurions on Monday in the Challenge Cup fourth round at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium. The Vikings previously met the Centurions in the semi-final of the 1895 Cup in 2019, which turned out to be a feisty encounter.

In 2016 Liverpool Tritons RUFC became the first inclusive rugby union team in Merseyside, creating a welcoming home for those in the LGBT community.  The current Chairperson of the club Mike Turner has been there from the start and has been a key figure in the running of the club ever since.

Round Two of the 2022 Six Nations has come to an end as England cantered to victory over Italy in Rome. There were a few noteworthy things happening around Europe in this latest round of games.

North West sides were victorious in the opening round of matches in the Betfred Super League. Defending champions St Helens defeated Catalans Dragons 28-8 in a repeat of last year's grand final.

Jonny Sexton is out of the Six Nations clash against France, with Joey Carbery taking his place. Sexton suffered a hamstring strain in training on Wednesday, its severity is not yet known. 

St Helens open the Super League season at home against title challengers Catalan Dragons tonight (February 10) in a grand final rematch. The Dragons won their first ever League Leaders' Shield last year but couldn’t achieve the double, as Saints edged a 12-10 victory at Old Trafford.

The season review so far for Sefton RUFC is bright. A recent win over Congleton put Sefton three points behind second following back-to-back wins in the Lancashire County Rugby Union ADM Championship.
