Neal Skupski and Jamie Murray lost in three tight sets in Montpellier against an unseeded doubles team.
The British doubles team and fourth seeds at this tournament lost 6-4, 6-7, 10-5 to Dominic Inglot and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi.
It is the second time that they lost in the semi-finals of a tournament, last time being in Adelaide, also in three sets. They then participated in the first major of the season, the Australian Open, where they were eliminated in the second round.
The Merseyside player and Murray continue their preparation for the first Masters 1000 of the season, this week at the ATP 500 in Rotterdam.
The British pair are unseeded at this tournament and will play Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Jurgen Melzer, tomorrow, but the time is still unknown.
